✳ SOUND · COGNITION · CREATION

How doessound becomeexperience?

A vibration. A pattern. A possibility.
Follow one sound through seven transformations.
Find the questions it leaves behind.

An original synthetic sound study. Headphones welcome.

01 / MATTEROne sound. A landscape of folds.
AN INDEPENDENT RESEARCH & CREATIVE PRACTICEFollow the transformation

01 BENEATH THE SURFACE

A hidden order.
Made visible.

The sculpture opens. What looked like a single object becomes a landscape of time and frequency.

These contours come from the sound you heard. Follow a note across the surface; look for the quieter structures around it.

64 BANDS / 174 FRAMES / 7.4 SECONDS
Where the data ends, and the art begins +

In the open spectrum, time runs left to right and frequency rises from bottom to top on a logarithmic scale. Spectral magnitude shapes the relief and colour. The folding, material, light and later transformations are artistic choices.

02 WHAT CAME BEFORE

Two histories.
One ending.

A sound arrives with a past. Can a different beginning change the way an identical ending feels?

SAME
ENDING
SAME
ENDING
DIFFERENT CONTEXTSONE SHARED TARGET

Does the ending feel different?

No right answer. Just a moment of attention.
What stays the same? +

Both sequences play the exact same target file after different synthetic contexts and an 80 ms gap. The sculpture illustrates two paths converging; it does not model the listener’s response. Impressions are not collected as scientific evidence.

03 / CONTEXTDifferent paths converge on the same sound.

03 BEFORE THE NEXT NOTE

The future is
still open.

The form separates into three possible paths. Choose one. Listen to where the phrase could go.

Three composed examples. The paths express possibilities; their shape and size do not represent model probabilities.

04 / POSSIBILITYOne phrase. More than one way forward.
05 / INQUIRYAn open structure for an open question.

04 FOLLOW THE QUESTION

Curiosity,
given a method.

An impression becomes a question. A question asks for a model. A model must meet evidence.

COMPUTATIONAL RESEARCH / IN DEVELOPMENT

Musical Intelligence

An executable framework for investigating relationships between musical structure, perception and cognition.

FORMULATE→IMPLEMENT→TEST

The woven structure is a visual metaphor. A computational architecture can generate hypotheses; explaining human experience requires empirical testing.

05 THOUGHT, MADE TANGIBLE

Some questions
become works.

Listening leads to making. A composition, an instrument, a visual study: another way to think with sound.

STUDY 001

A sound, unfolded.

The sound, the analysis, and the choices behind this experience.

06 / CREATIONA surface begins to read like a score.

06 BACK TO THE BEGINNING

Same sound.
Another listen.

You have followed its structure, changed its context and imagined its future.

What do you notice now?

Back to the first fold
07 / RETURNThe end opens back into the beginning.
